Vegetable Garden Update

After only a week our vegetable garden is really growing-- the pumpkin and radishes are growing the most, but the beets, carrots, and lettuce are also beginnig to sprout. After our visit to the Berry Farm we decided to try some tomatoes as well, so we bought some tomato seedlings (see top picture).

Strawberry Pickin'

Daddy and Dana

Today we went to the Chesterfield Berry Farm to pick strawberries. We picked 9 pounds worth! The best part, I am really the only person who will eat them all! How many ways can I eat strawberries...

Up

When we went to Disney 2 years ago, we saw posters and drawings for a Pixar movie called "Up". Ever since then Dana has been excited about it. So, we took her to see it last night. She liked it so much that she said "Can we go over to Target and buy it on DVD?"

Happy Birthday Mama

Today was my 33rd birthday-- here is a picture of the cake that Chase and Dana made me.
Dana said "birthdays are for happiness and hugs" today-- one day last week she said that she wanted to call my mom to come over and take me shopping for my birthday. I don't know where she comes up with these things, but it is too cute for words! She wanted to light candles, then we listened to Jonathan Knight singing "Happy Birthday" (that's my #1 favorite NKOTB song of ALL TIME!) before I could blow out my candles. This led to a New Kids dance party in our kitchen:)

Farmer Dana

Chase finished making Dana a vegetable patch in the backyard. Today she planted pumpkins, carrotts, beets, radishes, and lettuce. We are planning on watermelon as well.

Welcome Goslings!

This little guy got pretty brave, and climbed up to the third step!

We have two goose families that call our pond home. One family has 7 goslings, the other has 5. They have already grown so much since we first spotted them about 3 weeks ago-- then we couldn't get near enough to take a picture. This week, the parents actually let us feed them-- right from our porch!

We went to Robbie and Marjie's new house tonight for a little family get together. It was so cute to see Dana, Miranda, Luke and Payton playing together. But, they wouldn't stay still long enough to get a picture-- the few I took came out blurry. Chase and Robbie rode around the property on 4-wheelers-- had to get pictures of Chase on the pink 4-wheeler!

Green Thumbs-- maybe...

Dana found a friend she called "Wormy". She made him a new home.

Well, I have not been too successful as a gardener thus far, but I don't give up. We pulled up all the plants I planted and subsequently killed last year, and tried planting some new victims-- I mean plants-- in their place. We'll see...

Zoo Field Trip

Dana took this shot of a Spoon Bill standing on one foot-- she said that Flamingos and Spoon Bills are her favorites because they are pink.
No matter how many times we go to the zoo, feeding the giraffes never gets old! Sadly, my camera battery died, so I didn't get too many pictures.
Today I played hooky from school and went on Dana's zoo field trip. I drove one of her classmates to the zoo-- it was weird to have two kids in the car-- and he kept calling me "mommy". I am still trying to figure out how I can spend all day with 20 5-year olds and not be tired, but 4 hours with a 4-year old and a 3-year old and I am exhausted! I was reminded why I only have one child! Much respect to all the moms of more than one kid!

Fashion Queen

Here is Dana, all ready for school- she picked out her own outfit-- striped tights, polka-dot and snowflake skirt, green polka-dot t-shirt, aqua sweatshirt, and pink sparkly shoes. She was so proud of herself :)

This morning I ran in the Richmond Race for the Cure-- my mother's day gift to Mom, Aunt Jo, and Chase's Aunt Glenda. I did it in about 40 minutes-- not too shabby for a slow and steady runner like me.
After the race we went down to Dinwiddie to have a Mother's Day lunch with Grandma and Grandpa. Dana took a spin on the Jon Deere with Grandpa-- and we saw a snake in the grass (I almost stepped on it!). We also watched a groundhog climb up into a tree to eat leaves and saw baby chickadees in their nest.

Ready for Summer!

Here is the new sandbox... all loaded up with the sand and toys.
And here is the tent we put over the sandbox, playhouse and outside kitchen-- to keep it shaded and cooler on those 90+ degree summer days!

Running in the new "water-pillar" sprinkler.
